Day 24: Treat Bags

These little bags have turned out to be a hit for Halloween treats. Both "loopy bags" and "bumble bug purse" work up quickly and turn out cute for all ages.
Tammy Rollston stitched a face on hers, turning it into a Jack-o-lantern. Tuck in a few treats and this makes the perfect gift for teachers too.

Day 23: Treat Bags

Last year when it was announced Furbies would be coming out again I had to make my own versions. This bag makes such a cute purse and would be fun for trick or treating too!
Add a hat to complete the costume.

Day 22: Treat Bags

Whoooo can resist a sweet little owl bag to use trick or treating? Shaunna Hallsson made yet another fun bag. This one is a small version of the "Dancing Owl Bag". She used an H hook. Just think how cute this will be in Christmas colors too!

Day 21: Treat Bags

Each year my mom puts together special goodie bags for family and special friends. I think it would be fun to also make little bags they can keep and use as little purses or for special toys they want to carry around.
This single handle version of "Loopy Bags" was made by Shaunna Hallsson. The colors say Halloween, but it could be used year round too.

Day 20: Treat Bags

Halloween is getting close, but there is still time to create a unique trick or treat bag to match a costume.
Thanks to JoAnne Thompson for sharing this cute bag version of the "Gorilla Stuffie". The pattern is available by itself or in the "Hooded Gorilla and Bonus Stuffie" (available again for a short time).
Add a Gorilla beanie and you have an instant costume even teenagers and adults will love.

Day 19: Treat Bags

I hope people realize how easy it is to combine patterns for new ways to use them. Most of the daily bags are great examples of this. Linda Kaffer made a wonderful treat bag out of a hat pattern. Awesome!
From Linda, "Here is my treat bag.  I used the build a monster hat pattern.  I used the eye, tooth, and tongue from it.  The nose is the small horn.  The other eye is from the cauldron pattern."

Day 18: Treat Bags

Wouldn't this be a cute little purse or cell phone carrier too? Darlene Tasso made this from the Cutie Cuffs pattern as a tiny treat bag. Any girls dressing up as Lala Loopsy would LOVE to have this for her treats.
I think I need a large version for a purse.

Day 17: Treat Bags

I just love seeing the creations others come up with from my patterns. Several, like this one, make me giggle. What a fantastic version of the Lunch Bag Buddies pattern. Thank you to Denise McCaskill for sharing her Candy Corn Treat Bag.

Day 6: Treat Bags

Today's treat bag reminds me of the movie Hocus Pocus. Jennifer Hatch, owner of Hatch-ed With Love, created this beautiful bag.
"I made this using the tiny tutu pattern and the spider is from Frankie's Bride!! Perfect size for little ones to fill up trick or treating! !"

Day 4: Treat Bags

Today's treat bag is a steaming pumpkin by Sally Korneychuk. "My granddaughter asked me to make her a little bag so that she could put treats in that she is allowed for the day." What a cute idea! She used the Bumble Bug pattern, making only one handle.
Thanks Sally for a quick and easy idea!

Day 3: Treat Bags

One of my favorite Halloween patterns has been turned into an awesome trick or treat bag by Lisa of Tadpoles and Lily Pad Crochet. Please visit her shop and thank her for sharing.
What a fun idea!
"I used the Frankies bride pattern! Instead of closing up the top of the purple I chained 40 then joined. I sewed the bottom of the hat to make it into a small bag for my daughter. I used red heart super saver in lavender, dayglow, black, maroon and white. I love this pattern! It was a lot of fun to make :)"

Day 2: Treat for Peeps

With a little creativity and imagination, tons of Snappy Tots' patterns can be turned into treat bags of all sizes. These two boo-tiful bags are by Anita Mills.
Here's her recipe for this batty duo:
Most of the parts and the base are from "Build a monster" flat hat pattern. The bat wings are from the "Mutant Bat" hat pattern.
The small one (bat) is the newborn size hat. It could be a cat too. The ghost is the child size hat. For both I used I hook at ww yarn. I had to tug the eyes on bat to shape.
For the handles I added an extra round and ch 25 (sk 25) for the big one and ch 20 (sk 20) for the small."
"Build a Monster" and "Mutant Bat" patterns were transformed into these awesome bags.

Pumpkin Time

Over the past 20 years (wow, that long?) i have painted over a thousand pumpkins to sell and give away. It has been a fun tradition.
Last year, instead of painting pumpkins, I made pumpkin hats for my youngest son's Kindergarten class. There are 22 students. Originally I thought I would try a variety of pumpkin patterns available from random shops. Snappy friends suggested turning my patterns in to pumpkins....oh, they were so fun. These three patterns are on sale today 9/26/13.
This, the first one, is "Victoria's Sunhat", started with a stem top (pattern to follow below) with additional rounds added.
Here are a trio of Snappy Tots' patterns, disguised as pumpkins:
Moody Pumpkin (bottom left): Start with medium brown yarn and follow "stem top" pattern below. Adjust last round of stem top to finish with 30sts. Switch to orange yarn (sample is Red Heart Pumpkin...and isn't that yellow). Start on round #5 of "Moody Bear". Continue until desired length. Curls are Red Heart Tea Leaf. Little leaf is a free pattern.

Victoria's Pumpkin (top center): Start with green yarn (Red Heart Tea Leaf) and follow "stem top" pattern below, ending with 32 sts. Switch to orange yarn (sample is Loops and Threads Impeccable Pumpkin). Start on round #3 of "Victoria's Sun Hat". This can be finished as written OR if desired, the stitch pattern can be continued to the bottom. To do this, work as written but do not add band. After repeated rounds, work 2-3 rounds with one less dc in between every other rib (*3 dc, fpdc, 4dc, fpdc*). Continue to decrease if necessary (*3dc, fpdc*). The bottom can be left as is, for a fun ripply edge or add rounds of fpdc/bpdc ribbing (see 2nd photo of this post).

Georgia's Pumpkin (bottom right):  Start with green yarn (Red Heart Tea Leaf) and follow "stem top" pattern below, ending with 32 sts. Switch to orange yarn (sample is a miscellaneous orange yarn I have). Start on round #4 of "Georgia's Sun Hat".Stitch count needs to be adjusted slightly for some sizes to have 32 sts.

Stem Top: With g hook and yarn, make a magic loop of 6sts (or preferred method for starting a circle of 6sts). Working in the round, sc 6. In BLO (for just this round), sc 6. 2sc in next st, sc 5. Work 2 rounds of sc. 2sc in next st, sc 6. *2sc in next st, sc 3*, repeat. In FLO (for just this round), *2sc in next st, sc*, repeat. 2hdc in next st, *hdc, 2hdc in next st*, repeat. *hdc 2, 2hdc in next st*, repeat. (32sts) Sc in next st, sl st in next. Change to orange yarn.

Curly Vine: With G or H hook, ch 12-20 (depending on desired length), work 2hdc in 2nd ch from hook, *hdc, 3hdc in next st*, repeat to end of chain. Finish off. Use tails to attach vine to base of stem.

Almost any pattern can be turned into a pumpkin. The important part is to match the amount of stitches from the last round of "stem top" to a round in your pattern. Find a round in the pattern you would like to use which is close to 32sts and start there.
